Separately, climate change and invasive species are two of the greatest threats to biodiversity and the ecosystem services on which we rely.  Combined their impacts will be compounded, potentially resulting in negative feedback loops with increasingly dire consequences. (Global Invasive Species Programme, GISP).

While efforts to control invasive aliens have yielded some positive results in the region, collective action is required. All land users are obliged by law to respond to Category 1 and 3 invaders. Category 2 invaders have commercial value, and special permits are needed to grow these species.

The list of invaders is long. On this site we feature the most problematic aliens in this region.
