Separately, climate change and invasive species are two of the greatest threats to biodiversity and the ecosystem services on which we rely.  Combined their impacts will be compounded, potentially resulting in negative feedback loops with increasingly dire consequences. (Global Invasive Species Programme, GISP).

Fieldwork for the Stewardship Project began in November. Assessing the condition of the veld and determining a biodiversity count for the vegetation is an important step in the process.

The veld condition will inform the management plan, helping to determine the actions which are required in different areas.

The assessment also directly influence whether an area quaifies for the Nature Reserve status, or Protected Environment.

Historic and Cultural Sites

Sites of special cultural value or historic significance are found in the Reserve. The geology includes the same belt of dolomite which occurs in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site.
