To date two very successful snare walks have been held on the Western side of the CRR and a substantial breakthrough was made on the last one when the team came across one of the snarers in the act who seemed oblivious to the fact that he was doing anything wrong.
This commonly practiced form of poaching will be with us for a very long time with complex socio-economic triggers, ignorance and a history of snaring being seen as a perfectly acceptable means of putting food on the table. The materials are easy to come by and setting them up without being seen is not difficult. Success replies on consistency.
Any loss in the natural environment will have an impact with every plant and animal playing a role. The preservation of our biodiversity relies on those willing to give of their time for these types of events.
