SUMMARY:Wild Crew @ The Sheds: Creepy Crawlies
DESCRIPTION:The Wild Crew @ The Sheds: Creepy Crawlies \nEven if there is a fear factor\, few things are as fascinating to a child as creepy crawlies; spiders\, millipeds and even scorpions\, there are just so many out there and each one has its own awesome characteristics. \nDid you know: \n\nSpider silk is antibacterial\, anti-fungal\, stronger than nylon and can stretch to three times its own length\nMillipedes have two pairs of legs for each body segment\nScorpions can live without food and water for over a year\n\nOn Saturday the 9th of May we will be seeking them out in their natural habitats! We will find out why they choose to live where they do\, what they eat and how they hunt. We will also see if we can build our own spider webs. \nThe Sheds\, Gemstone Road (off the R511)\, Crocodile River Reserve\nSaturday 13th June 2026\n08h30 to 12h00\nBring hats\, water bottles\, and a wild spirit. \n \nWe would like to thank our current sponsors and encourage others to consider sponsoring a child that may not otherwise be able to attend our School Programme events. If you are interested in helping us spread the word about the importance of our environment through interaction with nature please email events@crocodileriverreserve.co.za. \nIf you have any queries or would like more information on our School Programme please contact Dalene on events@crocodileriverreserve.co.za or 083 779-4143. \nTo sponsor a child\, please use the Quicket Booking Button below\, and select the “Sponsor A Child” Ticket.\n\n(You will be redirected to our CRR Page on Quicket to book your spot)

SUMMARY:Wild Crew @ The Sheds: Birds
DESCRIPTION:The Wild Crew @ The Sheds: Birds \nWhy do birds fly South? Because it’s too far to walk! \nWe\, as humans\, have learnt a lot from these remarkable feathered animals. We must credit them for advancements made in flight\, high-speed trains and drones. \nThey also do a lot for our natural ecosystems – which in turn benefits us. They are pollinators\, seed disperses and natural pest controllers amongst other things. Moreover\, they are beautiful to watch and to listen too. It stands to reason then that we should take the time to get to know them and encourage that interest and appreciation in our children. \nThis will be the focus of our Wild Crew Outing on Saturday the 11th of April. A walk through our beautiful grasslands learning how to identify birds\, looking at their general physiology\, studying feathers under a microscope and the challenge of seeing how well we\, as humans\, can build a nest\, are all on the cards for Saturday. For a truly fun filled morning outdoors\, bring your child to: \nThe Sheds\, Gemstone Road (off the R511)\, Crocodile River Reserve\nSaturday 13th June 2026\n08h30 to 12h00\nBring hats\, water bottles\, and a wild spirit. \n  \nWe would like to thank our current sponsors and encourage others to consider sponsoring a child that may not otherwise be able to attend our School Programme events. If you are interested in helping us spread the word about the importance of our environment through interaction with nature please email events@crocodileriverreserve.co.za.  \nTo sponsor a child\, please use the Quicket Booking Link\, and select the “Sponsor A Child” Ticket.\nIf you have any queries or would like more information on our School Programme please contact Dalene on events@crocodileriverreserve.co.za or 083 779-4143. \n\n(You will be redirected to our CRR Page on Quicket to book your spot)

SUMMARY:EAE Grasses Walk & Talk
DESCRIPTION:Grasses Walk & Talk Sunday the 22nd of March Walking through African grasslands\, with blue skies above and the feel of the sun on your skin brings about a wonderful feeling of peace and wellbeing\, but what makes up this remarkable biome? When you see a field of grass blowing gently in the breeze you are not seeing only one type of plant\, nor is there only one type of ecosystem. \nThe CRR is home to two grassland ecosystems\, The Egoli Granite Grasslands and the Carletonville Dolomite Grasslands. A very specific group of Flora is found in each. Studies suggest there are over 582 different plant species in the critically endangered Egoli Granite grassland alone. One is under severe threat and the other ‘of least concern’\, but here in the CRR both are an integral part of what makes us unique and special. \nJoin our Grasses Walk & Talk on Sunday the 22nd of March with experienced FGASA guide Karin Spottiswoode and learn all about these different ecosystems\, and spend some truly quality time in the outdoors! \nDate: Sunday 22nd March 2026\nTime: 8h30am to 11h30\nCost: R95.00 per adult and R45.00 per child under 12\nPlace: The Sheds @ Birdsong\, Gemstones Road (off the R511) Crocodile River Reserve\nWear comfortable walking shoes\, sunscreen and a hat\, and if you have any questions please drop us an email at events@crocodileriverreserve.co.za \n\n(You will be redirected to our CRR Page on Quicket to book your spot)

SUMMARY:Insect Walk & Talk
DESCRIPTION:Size really isn’t everything in the Insect world! \n  \nAs small as they are\, they play a crucial role in the environment and as such in our lives. With over a million species that we know of\, and many more yet to be discovered\, you can be sure that there will be something about insects that you will find either fascinating\, creepy\, awe-inspiring or just plain unbelievable! \n  \nDid you know: \n  \nThe smallest insect in the world measures between 0.13mm and 1mm in length. \n  \nThe assassin bug liquefies its prey’s insides with a venomous sting. \n  \nThe humble grasshopper has ears on its abdomen and has been around for over 250 million years. \n  \nThey are the drivers of our ecosystems because they pollinate plants\, they improve soil fertility\, decompose organic waste and are vital to the production of more than a third of our food crops\, and that isn’t all…. \n  \nCuriosity piqued? Join our Insect Walk & Talk on Sunday the 1st March\, with entomologist Kayla Noeth. Kayla has a PhD in Entomology and has academic training spanning forestry\, medical entomology and agriculture. Insects and the role they play in our ecosystems is her passion. She currently works as a research coordinator in the macadamia industry supporting agricultural research and risk mitigation initiatives. \n  \nDate: Sunday 1st March 2026\nTime: 8h30am to 11h30\nCost: R95.00 per adult and R45.00 per child under 12\nPlace: The Sheds @ Birdsong\, Gemstones Road (off the R511) Crocodile River Reserve\n  \nWear comfortable walking shoes\, sunscreen and a hat\, and if you have any questions please drop us an email at events@crocodileriverreserve.co.za \n\n(You will be redirected to our CRR Page on Quicket to book your spot)
