The purpose of the Audit is to ensure we are delivering in accordance with our IMP. It also helps us to identify challenges we might be facing, prioritise our next steps and remind us of our successes. Managing the CRR is a many faceted job and in attempting to deal with everything involved in the successful running of this unique Reserve one does not always take time to step back and look at the picture as a whole. Our first audit gave us this opportunity.
We were pleased to see we have met most of our goals. Our administration has been set up and is running smoothly, our mapping and the use of the GIS system is on track and our commitment to the expansion of the Reserve has brought in a satisfactory amount of extra hectares. We have increased, and improved on our communication with our Members and the outside world with changes to our Website, the introduction of our Newsletter, and regular posts on our Facebook page and Instagram account. Where we have fallen short is filling some of the posts as Office Bearers and Unit Managers, and succession is definitely a concern.
Our environmental awareness events have brought in visitors from far outside of the Reserve, as well as engaging CRR Members, Landowners and Residents in the area. Our School Programme has exposed children from all walks of life to the environment, its importance, and the CRR itself. We have also drawn organisations like The Honorary Rangers and birders to the CRR.
Some of our major challenges are inappropriate land use, disregard of the legislation by some Landowners and Residents, enforcement and eco-crime such as poaching and plant and wood harvesting, and of course, succession.
There is always room for improvement and growth, even on issues where we feel we have been successful. The Management Team is already hard at work to ensure another successful audit in 2025.
Our achievements would not have been possible without the support and help of our Members and supporters outside of the Reserve. Every person who attended an event, volunteered or gave of their time or expertise played a role, and we would like to extend our thanks to each and every one of them.
