• Insect Walk & Talk

The Sheds@Birdsong Gemstone Road, Crocodile River Reserve, Gauteng, South Africa

Not just a rock — rocks are stories in stone! Join us as we explore the science behind geology: how a quartz vein forms, what fossils reveal, and how the rock cycle connects it all. We’ll visit caves, examine stromatolites, and even collect—and catalogue—a few edible rocks. A perfect hands-on outing for curious young minds. Don’t let your child miss this geological adventure!

The best part is here in the CRR we can actually show them what we are talking about. Our usual nature walk will follow a different route, to a place where they will be able to see rocks that literally date back millions upon millions of years. In fact, we can boast about some of the oldest rock formations in the world!

  • Tree Walk & Talk

The Sheds@Birdsong Gemstone Road, Crocodile River Reserve, Gauteng, South Africa

Trees are the backbone of our natural landscapes, quietly supporting life in ways we often overlook. From stabilising soil and managing water flow to providing shelter and food for birds, insects and mammals, trees play a vital role in keeping ecosystems healthy.

Join Theunis Morgenthau on Saturday, 18 April 2026 for a guided veld walk through the Crocodile River Reserve as we explore the fascinating diversity of Highveld trees. Learn how to recognise different species and discover the important roles they play in our environment.
