The Wild Crew – Bugs

12 November 2025

Saturday was the perfect day to look for bugs, as the rain from the previous night had brought them all out. The children learnt all about the fascinating world of insects – their characteristics, adaptations, and behaviour – and experienced what it must feel like to be an entomologist.

Before we’d even reached the veld, everyone had already caught their first bug, causing great excitement! Once in the long grass, each child had a turn using the sweep nets, and on our return to our ‘base’ at The Sheds, we identified the insects, observed them under a microscope, and then, of course, released them back into their habitat.

The children had such a wonderful time that we ended up taking a second walk in a different habitat to see if we could find other species. This outing was definitely one to remember, and we can’t wait to do it all over again with the children next year!
